VARIOUS ARTISTS - SONGS FROM THE RAIN FACTORY

___________________________________________________________

In 1992, (now defunct) Pacific Northwest record label "Fearless Donkey Records" released a compilation CD called Songs From The Rain Factory. The bands weren't all on Fearless Donkey (not sure if any of them were!) but the release was a unique and interesting compilation. There was quite a bit going on in the underground Christian scene in the "upper left corner" at the time (the late 80's, early 90's), and this CD attempted to reflect the excitement and hope for the future of the Christian underground music scene many felt at the time.

In fact, this release is fairly prescient in that sense, as many of these artists were to later sign with Tooth & Nail, Broken, and others, either as the band on this CD or in another incarnation. For example, Poor Old Lu went on to a successful career on the Frontline Records sub-label Alarma!, The Clergy released "RUAMI" on Broken Records, and Don't Know released material on Tooth & Nail Records. Not to be outdone, Mikee Bridges from the Gecko Monks formed Sometime Sunday shortly after this release, Bill Power, who was in the band Ashes To Ashes, later formed Blenderhead, and members of Empty Tomb became Crux, all part of the early Tooth & Nail records roster. So there's really a lot of history on this Fearless Donkey release! Even if you don't care for every song on here today, it is a great record to keep around if you are a collector to any degree.

I hope you enjoy this truly rare find!

FAVORITE SONG: Ashes To Ashes - Ophelia Gone Mad. Not perfect, but has a lot of potential with a great feel. It really gets you in the pensive, suffering mind of that famous Shakespeare character.

  1. As a former Member of Ashes to Ashes I thank you! That song was a labor of love for sure. In fact all of us that worked on that project worked like it would be the most important project of our lives, but knew that no one would hear it. So it's gratifying to stumble onto this post!
Some of these guys are still at it and I would encourage your readers to look them up.
Sam Vance (leader of AtoA) is still doing art of many kinds more amazing than ever in Seattle. Mark Naron (bass player at times for AtoA) has truly remarkable studio fastbackstudios.net and makes remarkable guitars and amps fastbackguitars.com. Scott A (Time) has a great studio outside Seattle and is producing. Bill Power (producer of this CD and singer song writer for the very fine band Blenderhead which more people should know about from that same era) is still working in California now, enabling musicians and making art as he only can.
Gloria was an astounding band also. We lost something in Seattle when they broke up but I'm glad they got a song out there for the world.
So much to tell but I don't want to take more of your space than I already have. On behalf of Seattle underground musicians from that era, thanks for the moment in the sun!
